Aphorisms of Man Repair
Aphorisms on Man, 1789, translated by John Caspar Lavater. Illustrated by William Blake.
The original leather tightback binding had losses and tears on the cover boards, with both boards coming loose. The leather had lifted completely off the front board, and the bottom half of the spine was missing.
The binding was rebacked with calfskin was dyed to match the original leather using Roda dyes. Colour touch-ups were made with Golden Fluid Acrylics paint. The spine was gold tooled and scuffed to match original as closely as possible, then finished with a coat of red rot cocktail.
The flyleaves were reinforced with wheat paste, and an inner hinge of kozo was added, coloured with Golden Acrylic paint to match the marbled endpapers.
